GOdogs Results

The GOdogs project has been studying the genetics of obesity in dogs since 2013.  Thanks to our wonderful volunteer owners and dogs, we have collected over 700 samples of DNA from dogs of several breeds.

We’ve developed tools to study eating behaviour in dogs.  Over 3000 people have completed our dog eating behaviour questionnaire and others have visited Cambridge for eating behaviour tests with their dogs.  Read more about the behaviour results so far here.

Genetic studies in Labradors have already found one major genetic influence on obesity in the breed and further studies in Labradors, flatcoat retrievers and other breeds including pugs, French bulldogs and English bulldogs are underway.  Find our more about the genetics results so far here.
